Today, more than 55 million people live with dementia worldwide. Dementia is a chronic or progressive syndrome that leads to deterioration in cognitive functioning beyond what might be expected from the usual consequences of ageing. Dementia is distressing for everyone who must deal with it and the associated cognitive changes can have a significant impact on day-to-day life.

With warm technology, the focus is put on improving the quality of life and well-being of people with dementia. In this concept, technology is used as a means, not a goal.

The challenge is to conceptualise and develop innovative products of Warm Technology that improve the quality of life and care of people with dementia and their loved ones.

It was clear from the beginning that the challenge should not be approached as searching for problems to solve but rather as identifying opportunities for improving the lives of those affected by dementia. After research and meetings with people with dementia, the following problem definition emerged.

"Create a simple and intuitive tool for individuals with early- stage dementia and their primary caregivers to organise their personal belongings, maintaining positive habits through playful design."
